As spring blossomed in all its glory and nature thrived with exuberant vitality, the Graduate Student Union of the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering orchestrated the "Chips in Harmony with Nature, Intelligence Leading the Way" Spring Excursion to Qingyuan on May 10, 2026. Conceived with the purpose of enriching students' extracurricular experiences, alleviating the stress associated with research endeavors, and fostering a heightened sense of community within the academic institution, the event successfully convened nearly one hundred faculty members and students.Setting aside their bustling laboratories for a day, the participants embarked on a journey to Qingyuan, where exhilarating outdoor challenges and awe-inspiring natural vistas provided a rejuvenating opportunity to replenish both physical and mental energy.

Upon arriving in Qingyuan that morning, the group’s first stop was the city’s new landmark—the Olympic Sports Center—where the first highlight of the excursion awaited: go-kart racing. On a professional 10,000-square-meter track featuring 15 challenging turns, students and faculty members who normally immerse themselves in logic, algorithms, and code transformed into racers chasing speed and precision. Amid the roar of engines, participants experienced the thrill of high-speed competition firsthand. The imported European MY LAPS timing system accurately recorded every lap, while each burst of acceleration and every carefully executed drift provided a welcome release from the pressures of research and academic life.

Savoring Qingyuan: A Culinary Journey Through Local Delicacies

At lunchtime, participants gathered to enjoy one of Qingyuan’s signature culinary experiences—the “Seven Stars Aroundthe Moon” ChickenSaladFeast. While savoring the authentic local flavors, faculty members and students sat together, sharing stories and laughter from the morning’s racing adventures. Blending delicious food with lively conversation, the meal not only replenished everyone’s energy but also strengthened the bonds among teachers and students alike.

Among the Clouds: Embracing Nature’s Beauty

The afternoon itinerary unfolded at Niuyuzui Scenic Area. Following winding mountain paths and streams, students and faculty members trekked through lush landscapes, listening to the gentle flow of water and admiring ancient trees and climbing vines. Away from the demands of academic life, they immersed themselves in the tranquility and coolness of the primeval forest. The most exhilarating experience was undoubtedly the glass bridge spanning the Damao Valley. Stretching 200 meters in length and suspended more than 200 meters above the ground, this “bridge among the clouds” challenged participants’ courage while offering breathtaking panoramic views. Riding the “Flying Carpet” uphill and then descending via the Dragon Glass Slide, students captured countless smiling photos at the “Mirror of the Sky,” fully appreciating the spectacular beauty of Qingyuan’s verdant mountains.

After leaving behind the thrilling glass-bridge adventure, participants’ enthusiasm remained undiminished. Descending from the mountains, they headed straight to the scenic area’s signature water recreation zone. Bathed in warm sunlight and surrounded by calm waters, the area transformed into a lively arena filled with laughter, excitement, and friendly challenges.

Campfire Conversations Under the Stars

As the sun set and painted the horizon in golden hues, the final chapter of the excursion began—a campsite barbecue gathering. T-bone pork chops, fresh shrimp, scallops, and other delicacies sizzled over charcoal grills, filling the air with irresistible aromas. Under a sparkling night sky and a gentle evening breeze, participants relaxed and enjoyed lively conversations. Carefully organized by the Graduate Student Union, the barbecue was more than a feast for the senses; it was an opportunity for meaningful connection. Amid the warmth of the campfire and the aroma of grilled food, students shared stories, laughter, and reflections, strengthening the bonds that unite the Information Engineering community.

Wrapping Up

At 9:30 p.m., carrying with them joyful memories and shared experiences, all participants returned safely to campus, bringing the Qingyuan excursion to a successful close. True to its theme,Chips in Harmony with Nature, Intelligence Leading the Waythe trip provided far more than a refreshing break from daily routines. It offered an opportunity to relieve stress, strengthen physical and mental well-being, and deepen the friendships and camaraderie among members of the School of Information Engineering.

Looking ahead, the Graduate Student Union will continue to uphold its commitment to serving faculty members and students by organizing a wide range of engaging and meaningful activities. Recharged by this memorable journey, the Information Engineering community is ready to embrace future research endeavors and campus life with renewed enthusiasm, confidence, and determination.
