Recently, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School welcomed a Malaysian student delegation. Faculty and student representatives from the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering (SECE) joined the visiting students at Nanyan Garden for academic dialogue and mutual exchange, beginning a visit that combined intellectual depth with the warmth of cross-cultural interaction.

Academic Exchange: Exploring Frontier Research at SECE

The academic sharing session opened in the classroom. Assistant Professor Wang Shaocong and Assistant Professor Liu Qingyu of SECE introduced two of the School's core academic areas: Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering and Low-Altitude Intelligent Communication Technology and Engineering. Drawing on SECE's academic structure, research achievements, and talent development system, the two faculty members explained emerging research directions and industrial applications in an accessible way. Their presentations showcased SECE's academic strengths and offered the Malaysian students a window into the development of information science and engineering in China.

The session was highly interactive. Students raised questions about research areas that interested them, and the exchange of ideas kept the classroom discussion lively and engaging.

Laboratory Visits: Experiencing Research Up Close

After the sharing session, the delegation visited the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Computing-in-Memory Chips and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ultra-High-Definition Immersive Media Technology. At the computing-in-memory laboratory, Assistant Professor Wang Shaocong introduced relevant research areas and experimental equipment. At the immersive media laboratory, Tenured Associate Professor Gao Wei explained ongoing projects and the laboratory's research workflow. The real research environment made concepts from textbooks tangible and accessible. Students from both sides exchanged ideas as they moved through the laboratories, discussing experimental techniques and research approaches and gaining a deeper understanding of information science and engineering.

Campus Walk: Experiencing Nanyan Garden and Campus Culture

Afterwards, faculty members and student volunteers led the delegation on a walk around campus. The modern academic buildings reflected the energy of frontier research, while the peaceful campus scenery revealed another side of life at PKU Shenzhen. Along the way, students stopped to talk and immersed themselves in the culture and atmosphere of Nanyan Garden through its architecture and surroundings.

At noon, the group went to the campus dining hall for lunch. In a relaxed atmosphere, conversations moved from academic topics to everyday campus life, from local customs to aspirations for personal growth. Laughter filled the table. A simple campus lunch helped bridge cultural distance and added a warm note to the visit.

Moving Forward Together: Supporting Talent Development

The visit of the Malaysian student delegation provided an opportunity for academic exchange between young people from China and Malaysia, while also serving as a bridge for cultural interaction. SECE will continue to welcome students from around the world to Nanyan Garden and to the School, encouraging young students to learn from one another, grow through exchange, and move forward together. The School looks forward to more cross-cultural encounters and to building stronger ties of friendship and collaboration among young people in China and abroad.
