2026 School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Peking University International Summer Lab
Research Program
To encourage outstanding international students in science and engineering to pursue research, the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Peking University (hereinafter referred to as "SECE") has launched the International Summer Lab Research Program. This initiative encourages faculty members to host exceptional international students and researchers for short-term research visits during the summer, fostering a world-class platform for international exchange and collaboration in scientific research.
I. Program Overview
Participants will carry out research under the supervision of SECE faculty members without enrolling in courses or earning academic credits. Both the application and tuition fees are waived. The on-campus program primarily takes place during the summer break.
II. Eligibility
Applicants must:
1. Be between 18 and 45 years of age (in principle), in good physical and mental health, and demonstrate strong academic performance and integrity.
2. Hold a valid foreign passport and be non-Chinese citizens as defined by the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China.
3. Be currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or full-time research staff at overseas universities or research institutions.
4. Maintain a friendly attitude toward China and have no criminal record in any country.
III. Application Process
1. Contact a Prospective Supervisor
Applicants are encouraged to visit the SECE official website and related resources to identify a faculty member whose research aligns with their interests. They should then reach out directly to express their interest in participating in summer research.
As part of this initial step, applicants must submit the following preliminary materials:
l a curriculum vitae (CV), including full name, age, nationality, educational background, and relevant work or research experience;
l a research proposal (500–1,000 words) in either English or Chinese.
The School and the prospective supervisor will jointly conduct a preliminary review of the applicant's eligibility, academic background, and research potential.
2. Complete the Online Application
After passing the preliminary review, applicants must log in to the Peking University International Student Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com) and complete the application form for their chosen program.
When applying, please use the program code "Science & Research Program", select "Shenzhen Graduate School" as the host institution, and choose the appropriate SECE-affiliated project from the following options:
- Shenzhen - SECE - Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering
- Shenzhen - SECE - Computer Science and Technology
- Shenzhen - SECE - Communication and Information Systems
All information provided in the application must be accurate and complete.
3. Submit Application Materials by Mail
Applicants must mail the following documents (all materials must be in Chinese or English, unless otherwise specified):
(1) Printed online application form, signed by hand.
(2) Highest academic diploma or certificate of current enrollment, along with official academic transcripts (must be original documents or notarized copies).
(3) Two letters of recommendation from associate professors (or professionals of equivalent rank), written in Chinese or English. Each letter must be hand-signed by the recommender.
(4) Research proposal (500–1,000 words) in Chinese or English.
(5) Curriculum Vitae (CV).
(6) Certificate of Chinese proficiency (e.g., HSK), if available.
(7) Copy of the passport information page, showing a valid ordinary passport.
All the materials must be submitted completely, otherwise your application will not be considered.
4. Final Review
Eligible applications will advance to the final review stage. Applicants selected for admission will be issued official admission materials.
IV. Schedule
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. The specific on-campus period will be indicated in the official Admission Notice.
V. On-Campus Benefits
Participants will be issued a temporary campus card for Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, providing access to on-campus facilities, including dining halls and the campus network. Accommodation support will be provided, subject to availability.
VI. Visa
Admitted students must apply for an X2 study visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country. The visa’s validity period must align with the program dates specified in the Admission Notice
